Start the presses
My work usually involves pushing and/or pulling the news. But eeeevery once in a while, I am the news.
Washington Post | In the wake of the omicron wave, single parents are drowning | Caitlin Gibson
“I get a lot of: ‘Oh, Rachel, I don't know how you do it,’” says Rachel Perrone, a single mom to a 14-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter in Northwest D.C. “My answer is, ‘what else am I going to do? You would do it, too.’”
I recently (re)told the story about bringing the kids to a Sandy Hook candlelight vigil, how as a comms person I was acutely aware of what was grabbing the attention of the nearby Getty photographer. Talking to Caitlin @ WaPo was a similar experience. I was obviously leaning into topics that got more *clicketyclicketyclick* of typing in the background, but I also got the sense that she was looking for something… sadder? more harried, more struggling… than I have to offer.
