Sometimes you feel like a drupe
Today…
as of this writing, is the last presidential debate. I may or may not inform my 6th grade political pundit. We’ll see if I have the stomach for it later.
at 1pm ET, the Senate Judiciary Committee is slated to start voting on Amy Coney Barrett.
is National Nut Day. Combining my love of food and pedantry, I was fascinated to learn not long ago that most of the things we call nuts aren’t really. Peanuts are legumes, which I assume you knew. Almonds, cashews, pecans, pistachios and walnuts are all (the seeds of) drupes, related to peaches, cherries and other stone fruits like that. Brazil nuts, macadamia nuts and pine nuts are seeds.
So wtf is a nut? Chestnuts and hazelnuts. That’s it. (Okay, that’s not it, but you’re highly unlikely to find the others at Harris Teeter.)

In a move that is likely to further anger his conservative opponents, Pope Francis has broken with the traditional position of the Roman Catholic Church by supporting civil unions for same-sex couples.
