in 2018, Kavanbräu was confirmed.
is the birthday of Fannie Lou Hamer (1917-1977), a leader in the women’s, voting and civil rights movements. She was the youngest of twenty children. She was a lead organizer of the 1964 Freedom Summer. She co-founded the Freedom Democratic Party and National Women's Political Caucus. I mean, we could be here all day. She did everything.
There are any number of serious pictures, but too rarely in my dives down the women’s history rabbit hole do I find pictures of them laughing and enjoying life. So I loved this.
is National Noodle Day. Not sure how I feel about that, coming in the middle of Italian-American Heritage Month. If we’re talking about a ramen, udon, an Asian noodle of some kind, yes, we’re honoring our pasta roots. But your buttered egg noodles can wait their turn. I said sit down, spätzle.

The Daily Beast | SCOTUS Must Overturn Obergefell, Thomas and Alito Say in Rejection of Kim Davis Same-Sex Marriage Appeal | Pilar Bosch Melendez
The Supreme Court rejected an appeal by Kim Davis, the former Kentucky court clerk who was jailed in 2015 after refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. But in a four-page opinion about the case, Justices Thomas and Alito took the opportunity to make a jaw-dropping rant against the Court’s landmark Obergefell v. Hodges—the decision legalizing same-sex marriage, which they said threatens religious liberty.

L.A. Times | Senators must ask Barrett about the same-sex marriage precedent | Michael McGough
If and when the Senate Judiciary Committee questions Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett, senators are expected to ask her about whether she accepts Roe vs. Wade, the 1973 ruling legalizing abortion, as “settled law.” Two current members of the court have teed up another question that should be posed to Barrett: whether she sees as “settled law” Obergefell vs. Hodges, the 2015 case in which the court ruled 5-4 that states must make civil marriage available to same-sex couples.

Washington Post | The Supreme Court’s next abortion decision may come sooner than you think | Rachel Rebouché
A newly configured Supreme Court featuring a Justice Amy Coney Barrett need not overturn Roe v. Wade to gut abortion rights. The court stands poised to permit states and the federal government unfettered discretion to restrict abortion on the thinnest of justifications.

For the first two years of the Trump administration, the only barrier to the Republican-controlled Congress and White House stifling bodily autonomy with an unconstitutional 20-week abortion ban was the threat of a strategic hiccup called the filibuster.
